Louisiana Taxpayers: $16.9M in Refunds Must Be Claimed by Sept. 6

Thousands of Louisiana taxpayers may lose direct access to nearly $17 million in refunds this fall — unless they act fast.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) has issued notices to 17,976 individuals and businesses alerting them to outstanding tax refunds totaling $16.9 million.
If left unclaimed by September 6, 2025, the funds will be transferred to the state’s Unclaimed Property Program, making the recovery process longer and more complicated.
What’s Happening?
-
Notices were mailed July 28, 2025 to eligible taxpayers.
-
Each recipient received a Notice of Unclaimed Property with a refund voucher.
-
These funds are legally refundable now — but not for long.
If you received a letter, your money is waiting. But you have to claim it before the legal transfer date to avoid delays.

How to Claim Your Refund
There are two quick ways to secure your money:
1. Online:
Submit your claim at the official Louisiana Department of Revenue website.
2. By Mail:
Complete and return the paper voucher included in your notice.
Once processed, a paper check will be mailed to you directly.
Miss the Deadline? Here’s What Happens
After September 6, your unclaimed refund is moved to the Louisiana State Treasurer’s Office, where it becomes part of the Unclaimed Property registry.
You can still retrieve it later, but the process is slower — and many people forget to follow through.
